DiCon Fiberoptics Launches MEMS 3D Matrix Optical Switch

Richmond, CA – DiCon Fiberoptics announces the launch of its MEMS 3D Matrix Optical Switch, a compact, proprietary optical switch structure that allows up to 16 input and 16 output fibers to connect to each other in a fully non-blocking, all-optical cross-connect configuration. This innovative design is based on DiCon's industry proven MEMS mirror technology and offers the same level of durability and reliability that can be expected from any of DiCon's MEMS fiber optic switches.

"It augments our already broad range of optical switches, ranging from individual on/off and 1xN fiber optic switch components, to complex MxN cross-connect switches, and further cements DiCon's leadership position in MEMS-based fiber optic components, modules, and sub-systems."

DiCon's MEMS 3D Matrix Optical Switch operates by first collimating the light from the input fibers, and then using two arrays of DiCon's MEMS mirrors to precisely steer the light to a second set of lenses which launch the light into the requested output fibers. The resulting solution is a matrix optical switch available in any MxN size up to 16x16, with DiCon's proven high reliability, excellent optical performance, and long expected lifetime. The MEMS 3D Matrix is a compact module intended for integration into a larger system and is also available as a module for use in DiCon's GP750 rack mount system.
